This edition of the Norman Granz produced Songbooks series with Oscar Peterson presents the complete original album 'Oscar Peterson Plays the George Gershwin Songbook' (Verve MGV-2054), by the Oscar Peterson trio with Ray Brown on bass and Ed Thigpen on drums.

For this extended edition, four further Gershwin compositions recorded by Peterson have been added, including all of the tunes from a George Gershwin songbook attempt made in 1952 by Peterson's trio with Ray Brown and Barney Kessel on guitar, and originally issued as Oscar Peterson Plays George Gershwin (Clef MGC- 605).

A live version of 'It Ain't Necessarily So by the trio of Peterson-Brown-Thigpen taped in 1960 has been added as a further bonus.
